Long-term reliability preserving user’s security in severe conditions

The nuclear sector requires connectivity solutions that are able to function reliably and in the long term under the most severe conditions, resisting high pressure, high temperatures and radiation.

Long-term reliability is critical to the protection and safety of people and the environment.

Whether in nuclear decommissioning, research laboratories, fuel or power generation, new build or reprocessing, decontamination and sterilization processes, our durable connectivity solutions are proven in nuclear applications including glove boxes, cranes, control panels and x-ray and remote inspection systems, exceeding the requirements of these challenging conditions.

Requirements & challenges

Resistance to severe conditions
  • Operating temperatures from -55 °C to +130 °C
  • High-performance 360° EMC shielding
  • Fluid ingress protection up to IP68 / IP69
  • Hermetic sealing (< 10-8 mbar l/s)
  • Compatible with nuclear decontamination fluids
  • Best radiation and chemical resistance with premium materials and high-quality designs
Safe manipulation during testing and inspection operations
  • Secure connections with push-pull and tamper-proof locking systems
  • Enhanced safety with key and color coding for error-free mating
  • Ultra-easy to connect and manipulate with blind mating and remote handling or with gloves
  • Reverse polarity
  • Signal, power, coaxial or hybrid
  • 316L stainless steel
  • Compliance with the main nuclear safety standards from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Nuclear Safety Standards Commission (KTA)

Typical applications

Ionization chambers

Mirion Technologies uses Fischer Connectors for radiation monitoring systems on their brand MGP Instruments. The ionization chamber series KG 80 PED / PEF has been developed for gamma dose rate monitoring under extreme conditions, and the Fischer Core Series Stainless Steel is ideal for the task.

Glove boxes for handling radioactive material

Our connectors offer ease of use for gloved and remote handling in glove boxes. They are compatible with decontamination and sterilization processes allowing for safe environmental, geophysical and material testing and inspection.

Vacuum pumps

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) trusts Fischer Connectors to interconnect measurement tools, vacuum pumps and chambers for monitoring and safety devices. The Fischer Core Series Brass is particularly suited where electromagnetic interferences must be avoided or where temperatures can have extreme variations.
