Fischer Connectors is expanding interoperability of the Fischer KEYSTONE™ 6-port tactical hub. New features provide soldiers with a connectivity solution aligned with NGH and NATO STANAG 4695 and 4851 specifications. Fischer KEYSTONE™ Product Manager Olivier Thormann tells us more on the current developments.

Fischer Connectors is extending the line-up of the Fischer KEYSTONE™ portfolio to cover infantry soldiers’ needs for more data, higher speeds, greater power and less weight.

KEYSTONE facilitates usability of the digital kit that soldiers wear to enhance situational awareness, mission planning, and real-time communication.

Fischer KEYSTONE’s architecture is built in line with the Next Generation Hub (NGH) specifications. The hub’s connectors connect to all Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4695 and 4851 standard components. Moreover, the Fischer KEYSTONE power management app is available as a standalone and/or plug-in for the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK).

A new cable allows a secure, EMI/RFI shielded connection from the Fischer KEYSTONE to the smartphone EUD while in a widely-used Juggernaut case. A closed cell foam seal guarantees IP67 sealing between the case and the USB-C interface.

A few examples of cables/connectors developed for the Fischer KEYSTONE™ Tactical Hub, from top to bottom: plug-to-receptacle cable, plug-to-plug cable, plug-to-Juggernaut IMPCT cable, plug-to-RJ45 receptacle cable, plug-to-receptacle cable.

“Fischer KEYSTONE meets soldier modernization program requirements worldwide,” reminds Olivier Thormann, Fischer KEYSTONE™ Product Manager. “KEYSTONE provides infantry soldiers with a hub compatible with military standards along with a versatile portfolio of cable assemblies. The plugs and receptacles of the Fischer UltiMate™ 80 connectors connect to all NATO STANAG 4695 and 4851 standard components, and our cable assemblies can be adapted to other military OEM interfaces.”

“We work closely with customers to understand and anticipate their requirements for future programs to modernize soldier systems,” explains Thormann. “Compatibility is key here, as military operations typically include fully functional yet older equipment. The goal is to get our customer needs covered, making our product even more competitive in terms of performance, reliability and pricing.”

The quality tests conducted on Fischer KEYSTONE ensure that it is robust in every aspect of its design. “The internal electronics are designed for ruggedness and high performance,” details Thormann. “KEYSTONE is fully shielded for EMI/EMC and features high security firmware. It has been rigorously tested to ensure performance in military field conditions, and each unit is checked at the end of the production line, including 100 electrical tests on every unit, ICT testing, continuity testing for signal and shielding, and rigorous sealing tests. There is no compromise on reliability in this product.”
