High-speed data: USB 3.2 Gen 2 up to 10 Gbit/s now available in versatile, rugged Fischer Core and UltiMate connector series

Fischer Connectors continues to expand its range of high-speed data connectors and cable assemblies that combine robust, miniature features with signal integrity performance. From July 2024, the versatile Fischer Core Series and the rugged Fischer UltiMate™ Series are available with USB 3.2 Gen 2 up to 10 Gbit/s to meet the growing need for high-speed data transmission in demanding environments. 

These two series join the portfolio of USB 3.2 connectors and cable assemblies already available in the Fischer MiniMax™ miniature solutions for harsh-environment applications where SWaP (size, weight and power) is critical.

With this expanded offering in three of its flagship product lines, Fischer Connectors provides design engineers with a wide variety of ruggedized, waterproof, pre-cabled connectivity solutions that combine high-speed data protocols with the signal integrity performance and ruggedness demanded by data-intensive applications and technologies in the medical, instrumentation and defense environments.

The new USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectors are available with 9 pins in Fischer Core Brass plugs of 13 mm diameter and in Fischer UltiMate™ plugs of 18.5 mm diameter. Both series offer robust features such as IP68/69 sealing even when unmated, hermeticity (gas and vacuum tight) with a resin-sealed contact block, operating temperatures from -70 °C to +250 °C for Core and from -55 °C to +135 °C for UltiMate, up to 10,000 mating cycles, and various locking mechanisms: push-pull and quick-release for Core and UltiMate, friction for Core. UltiMate connectors also allow for blind mating with an extremely robust mechanical keying.

The Core series is Fischer Connectors’ historic product line, trusted by technology-driven industries worldwide for its versatility and ruggedness in extreme applications ranging from medical, defense and industrial automation, to test and measurement. Resistant to chemicals and sterilization processes, the new Fischer Core USB 3.2 Gen 2 solutions are ideal for USB3 cameras used in orthopedic surgery or endoscopic devices. They can also be used in instrumentation applications such as assembly production lines and outdoor inspections in radiation and/or contaminated areas.

Designed for durability and stealth under harsh environmental, industrial and chemical conditions, the Fischer UltiMate™ Series offers 360° EMC shielding and high resistance to shock, vibration and corrosion (up to 1,000 hours of salt mist). The USB 3.2 Gen 2 UltiMate connectors and cable assemblies are ideally suited to meet the military specifications (MIL-SPEC) for applications such as drones equipped with USB3 cameras.

Dedicated custom cables have been created for Fischer MiniMax™, Fischer Core and Fischer UltiMate™ USB 3.2 connectors, which are also available pre-cabled and overmolded as plug-and-play solutions.
